Minister Balborda speaks at the KPMG’s ‘Island Infrastructure’ conference in Miami

Minister BalbordaMIAMI, WILLEMSTAD – Minister Earl Balborda was invited to participate and also to be one of the guest speakers at the KPMG conference recently held in Miami.

The conference was on ‘Island Infrastructure’. The Minister was accompanied by the members of Parliament, Humphrey Davelaar (PNP), Charles Cooper (MAN) and Armin Conquet (PAR). They also contributed and actively participated in the conference.

Minister Balborda spoke during the conference about a Successful Public-Private Partnership: Curacao’spast, present and future instrument for social and economic development. During his dissertation, the Minister talked about the history of Curacao, where Curacao is at the moment, and he also emphasized the plans for the future of the island.

The KPMG conference is an event which counts with the participation of leaders in the private and public sector. They come together to discuss interesting topics. Some of those present were Prime Ministers and Ministers in the Caribbean region like the Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos Island, Bermuda and Sint Maarten. Major Banks, financial institutions, local and international developers and many investors were also present during this conference.

Some of the topics discussed were: Initiation of many infrastructure projects, research on how an island can use financial alternative models lie the Public Private Partnership to help develop its economy, accomplish an accelerated infrastructure development which helps increase an island’s economy, factors which makes an infrastructure project attractive for international infrastructure developers, how to accomplish a new structure and different ways to attract new investors.

At the end of the conference, participants remarked that Curacao is an example of how Government officials, both coalition and opposition can unite to better serve the island so it can progress.
