Minister Francisca was not convincing

FranciscaWILLEMSTAD – The Minister of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW), Jean-Marie Francisca had to answer several questions which were asked about six weeks ago. These questions came from various Members of Parliaments. The Minister had four weeks time to answer these parliamentary questions.

According to these MPs, the questions the Minister gave during the Central Committee meeting were not convincing. This is the reason why the MPs gave the Minister, after her request, three more days to do her homework.

Main problem, during the Minister’s presentation, was the lack of supporting policies to cope with the austerity measures, particularly for pensioners, who were hit the hardest. According to the MPs they also felt the absence of the plan for the minimum wage, which should have been at least indexed as was promised by the Minister months ago.

Also, the emergency letter sent by the Secretary-General of the SOAW Ministry, Bernice Calmes, together with the management team, to the minister was quoted extensively by the MPs. And the decision, which was announced by the Minister last week to appoint an intervention team to help solve the overall crisis within the Ministry, was discussed. The MPs want to know who is going to be part of that team and who will pay for it.
