OM will appeal decision release Jamaloodin

Jamaloodin1WILLEMSTAD – The Public Prosecutor (OM) will appeal the decision to release the former Minister of Finance, George Jamaloodin. Jamaloodin was released after his legal representative made this request to the magistrate last Monday. Jamaloodin is considered one of the suspects in the case Maximus, which is the investigation into the intellectual authors and financiers of the murder of the late politician and Member of Parliament Helmin Wiels.

The magistrate concluded in his decision that at this moment there are no sufficient substantiated arguments to keep Jamaloodin in detention. But the magistrate has also indicated that his decision does not mean that Jamaloodin is not a suspect anymore. Last week the OM was not able to appeal the magistrate’s decision to release Jamaloodin’s half-brother, Robbie dos Santos, which was a different type of case.

After Jamaloodin was released, he questioned the conditions under which he was held in the cell at Barber. He stated that the hygienic conditions are not adequate as a jail.
