Parliament debates on the future of the refinery

Isla in ParliamentWILLEMSTAD – The future of Isla refinery is currently being debated in Parliament during the public meeting requested by the opposition party MFK. A group of employees are also present in the meeting. They don’t want the Parliament’s decision to put their jobs at risk.

Premier Ivar Asjes has indicated that the refinery should be modernized and that the area should be cleaned up. Asjes also indicated that this plan will cost 3 million dollars. Member of Parliament for MAN, Charles Cooper said that he supports the plan maintain the refinery open. The MAN MP does not see the plans of the GreenTwon as a solution for the area and for the future of the island. GreenTown wants to redevelop the whole Schottegat area once the agreement with the Venezuelan oil company PDVSA expires in 2019.
