Plasterk does not interfere with online casinos in Curacao
THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD – Online casinos and the possible illegal activities connected to it are not a matter for the Netherlands. This is according to the Minister of Kingdom Relations Ronald Plasterk in response to written parliamentary questions. These questions came from the Dutch MPs Ronald van Raak of the Socialist Party (SP) and Andre Bosman of the ruling party VVD.
Only online casinos from Curaçao focusing the Dutch market have attention of the Ministry of Security and Justice in the Hague. Plasterk did not say anything about the supervision of the Ministry on these online casinos.
Van Raak and Bosman believes that the gambling industry in Curaçao are unregulated and nobody supervises. According to both Dutch MPs the national telecom provider UTS, which is a public company, has a major role in these illegal activities.
On the other hand, UTS indicates in a press statement that they are tired of the accusations of these two MPs.
“The good name of the company is unfairly affected. The management of UTS suspects the Dutch MPs to have a double agenda,” said UTS in their press release.
According to UTS “we ourselves allow Curaçao to become victim of Dutch interests.” The telecom urges local MPs to raise this with the Dutch government thus preventing the reputation of the island to be affected.
