Prime Minister: “Royal visit was beautiful”

Royal CoupleWILLEMSTAD - Premier Ivar Asjes is satisfied with how everything went during the introductory visit of King Willem-Alexander and Máxima queen to Curacao.

“It was in one word 'beautiful',” said Premier Asjes Tuesday in Fort Amsterdam where a reception was held to end the two day royal visit to the island.

Asjes was “happy and satisfied”. He said that the royal couple was warmly received; the population throughout the island warmly greeted them.

“It was quiet.” He compared this year’s visit with the last one of Queen Beatrix and the (then) princely couple in 2011. “Last time there was some tension,” Asjes indicated, referring to the protests directed against the Netherlands at the time.

The royal couple’s trip will continue in Aruba. This will be on Wednesday and Thursday. After their visit to Aruba, the couple will then travel to Colombia and Venezuela with the Prime Ministers of Curacao and Aruba.
