Punda entrance will get a facelift
WILLEMSTAD – Drivers, residents and business owners in the area of Ruyterkade, Punda will experience some inconvenience this coming weekend. The entrance to the downtown area will become more pleasant and the Ministry of Traffic, Transportation and Spatial Planning is preparing to start with this project on Sunday March 13.
On Sunday and Monday, the contractors will dig the sand from the road verge and replace it with new sand. To do this in a responsible way, the contractors will close off one side of the road. Traffic can continue, but for sure on Monday, drivers will have to take into account that there will be traffic jams. Residents and business owners in the area will also have to take into account the nuance and dust caused by the works.
Vivian’s Nursery is in charge of the plants that will remain small in the new sand. In time these will bloom and this will give the entrance to downtown Punda a pleasant and neat look and feel. The current plants and palm trees will also be treated. The irrigation system will be revised and adapted to the changes. The irrigation system has suffered greatly because of vandalism, but also because of drivers who illegally park their cars on the road verge.
The renovation work will last for about a week. The Ministry asks all those that use De Ruyterkade on Sunday and Monday to take into account this project. They also ask for the people to take care of the plants and the irrigation. “Then we all can be proud of our downtown Punda.”
