Ruling party PS has new political leader
WILLEMSTAD - It is now official. The Member of Parliament, Jaime Córdoba is the new political leader of the ruling party Pueblo Soberano (PS), the party of the assassinated politician Helmin Wiels.
The members of the party have elected Cordoba, who was the only candidate for the post, during a party meeting last Saturday.
It is the first time since the murder of the founder of the party in May 2013 that the PS again has a political leader. Many have thought that former Prime Minister of Curaçao, Ivar Asjes would become the leader of the party. The relations between Asjes and the MPs representing the party went sour for unknown reasons. Both sides still do not want to state what the reasons were for the dismissal of Asjes as Prime Minister.
Cordoba has announced that he will continue the legacy of Wiels, even though he is not Wiels. He also wants to make Curaçao a fully independent country.
