Schotte formally accepts his election as MP
WILLEMSTAD – Today the leader of the MFK, Gerrit Schotte signed the official documents indicating that he formally accepts his election as Member of the Curaçao Parliament.
Schotte did this after it became clear that his party will not be part of the new government. Earlier he declared that he is willing to step down if he’s the reason why his party was not approached as a possible coalition partner.
Recently both the party’s number one and number two candidate announced that they are willing to give their seats to other party’s members in favor of the party being considered as a potential coalition member. Schotte stated in his press conference that the people of the island have chosen three parties to form a government, the MAN, PAR and the MFK, good for 12 seats in Parliament.
Schotte and his party colleague, former Minister of Public Health, Jacintha Constancia, are both being accused in criminal cased. Schotte was even convicted to three years prison by the Court of First Instance. He appealed his case. Constancia’s case is still under investigation.
