Teacher Training Program in Primary Education (LOFO) of the General Faculty again assessed positively by the NVAO

UoCWILLEMSTAD - On July 11, 2018, the General Faculty of the University of Curaçao Moises da Costa Gomez (UoC) received the joyful message that the Bachelor's degree in Teacher Training (LOFO) has again been positively assessed by the Dutch Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO).

This teacher training, which educates both Curaçao and Bonaire as a teacher in basic education (Curaçao) / primary education (Bonaire), therefore remains included in the register of accredited and positively assessed college and academic programs. The positive assessment applies again for a period of six years.

The visitation of the LOFO, which is offered on Bonaire in mixed form, took place in August 2017 with a positive assessment from NVAO as the final result.

The General Faculty has confirmed by this positive assessment that the LOFO program still meets the quality requirements set for professional Bachelor's programs. It has been verified whether the final qualifications of LOFO meet the requirements of professional colleagues in professional practice. These are general, internationally accepted standards of a Bachelor's program at higher professional education level.

During the visitation, discussions were held with the program management, the Faculty Board of Examiners, the lecturers, representatives from the educational field, students and graduates. This means that this new milestone has also been achieved this time through close teamwork. The permanent staff of the General Faculty, the guest lecturers, the students of the LOFO, the professional field, the employees of the support services of the UoC, all contributed their part. After all, in a large number of sessions the review committee will ask groups from all levels of the study program that are involved in LOFO activities. Furthermore, all documents from internal committees such as examination, work field and testing committee will be included. The visitation committee also conducts research into the quality of examinations, theses, papers, reports, dossiers and portfolios, for example. The teaching team is also subjected to a quality survey.

The dean of the General Faculty indicates that this positive assessment (or 'accreditation') has shown that the Basic Education Teacher Training Program of the General Faculty meets internationally applicable quality standards. This opens the door to the intensification of the international contacts between the LOFO of the General Faculty and those of foreign institutes with comparable programs.

On November 30, 2017, the Bachelor's programs Papiamentu, English, Dutch and Spanish of the General Faculty were also positively assessed by NVAO.
