The Caribbean through the eyes of Jacob Gelt Dekker

The-Caribbean-Jacob-Gelt-DekkerAMSTERDAM - In the book The Caribbean, published this week, author Jacob Gelt Dekker takes the reader on a special journey through the history of the Caribbean.

After a life-changing diagnosis, the entrepreneur / philosopher / world traveler / columnist / benefactor and - on Curaçao - persona non grata decides to leave his home in Key West to make a discovery tour along the islands by boat. He is accompanied by Anansi de Spin (Spider) and the Flying Dutchman. Together this illustrious trio tries to find out the truth about the Caribbean. They meet pirates, buccaneers, hijackers, but also follow in the footsteps of the slaves, unravel superstition and witchcraft and fathom corruption.

The Caribbean is a special amalgamation of history book and travel guide and of facts and fantasy. The book (in English) helps to better understand the Caribbean and its populations in 2018, according to Dekker.

The Caribbean has been published by Amsterdam Publishers, has 300 pages and 98 illustrations.
