Timmermans confers with Curacao about foreign policy

TimmermansTHE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD – Minister Timmermans (Foreign Affairs) discussed the implementation of the foreign policy of the Kingdom with Prime Minister Daniel Hodge in Willemstad Curacao. They discussed relations with the neighboring countries in the region and cooperation with the foreign service.

Timmermans is Minister of Foreign Affairs of the whole Kingdom of the Netherlands, including Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten. Timmermans: "I want to integrate the foreign priorities of Curaçao in the foreign policy of the Kingdom in a way that Curaçao recognizes itself. We will set priorities together, make plans together and call each other on their results..."

Cooperation will be intensified at a practical level. Timmermans and Hodge signed an agreement that allows placement of administration officials of Curaçao at embassies of the Kingdom. Last Monday Netherlands, Aruba and Curacao signed in Caracas a cooperation agreement with Venezuela.

Reason for the introductory visit was the 40th anniversary of the Foreign Relations Department of Curaçao. Timmermans congratulated the Board in a speech.

Timmermans also met with the Acting Governor, Adele van der Pluijm-Vrede, with the President and some members of the Parliament of Curaçao. Timmermans also made ​​acquaintences with representatives of civil society.
