U.S. extradition request rejected, defendants freed

Court of JusticeWILLEMSTAD - K., R. and F. will not be extradited to the United States. That was the ruling of the Court yesterday. The trio was suspected by U.S. authorities of drug trafficking, but they were set free immediately.

This is due to infiltration and surveillance of U.S. authorities, without the knowledge of the Public Prosecutor (OM).

Legal System

This made it impossible for the prosecution to determine whether the U.S. authorities have acted contrary to our legal system. The defendants were interrogated by U.S. investigators in 2012, without the OM’s involvement. In addition, there is no official report or it was done incorrectly. Given that the defendants have the Dutch nationality, they are entitled to protection from the prevailing rules and criminal laws. According to the Court, these rules and laws were not kept by the American authorities.
