Update: Sports organization in talks with Prime Minister
WILLEMSTAD - There seem to be developments in the conflict between the government and the board of the Fundashon Fasilidatnan Deportivo Korsou (FFDK), the organization in charge of the sport facilities on the island. Yesterday the board was in fact invited by Prime Minister Ivar Asjes to talk about the problem, especially the finances and the 2 million guilder debt.
FFDK has substantial debts and believes that government should take these over if it is going to take over the sport facilities. The government is, however, disagrees. According to the FFDK, the debts are more of a structural nature. This is why they have agreements with the Tax Department, the Social Insurance Bank and the utility company Aqualectra. As a consequence, the sport center in Brievengat, the SDK had to close its doors.
The Council of Ministers will make a decision on this issue during their weekly meeting today.
