Venezuela threatens the Netherlands if diplomat is not released

1528670_10154411186515615_1831167931937056238_nCARACAS, THE HAGUE - The Netherlands must ensure the release of the Venezuelan diplomat who was arrested in Aruba on suspicion of drug trafficking. If this does not happen then it will have consequences for the diplomatic and trade relations between the Netherlands and Venezuela. This was declared by the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

The diplomat is Hugo Carvajal, the former head of intelligence in Venezuela. He was in Aruba as Consul General of Venezuela. The diplomat is wanted by the United States for alleged drug trafficking. He was arrested on Wednesday.

According to the U.S., Carvajal works with the leftist FARC in Colombia. Venezuela calls the arrest on Aruba "illegal and arbitrary". His diplomatic immunity was not respected.
