Visit Venezuela is a sign of respect

Royal visitWILLEMSTAD, CARACAS – The visit of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima to Venezuela today is not a controversial visit. This is according to Minister Frans Timmermans (Foreign Affairs), shortly before leaving Colombia. “In Venezuela there is political unrest, but the King and Queen will visit a country and a people, not a political group,” Timmermans indicated.

The minister sees the introductory visit to the South American country as a sign of respect and appreciation for Venezuela. According to Timmermans it is a good practice to visit all neighboring countries as King of the Kingdom in the first year. Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao are off the coast of Venezuela. Between Aruba and Venezuela there is a distance of 30 kilometers.
