Whiteman remains Prime Minister till end of term
WILLEMSTAD – Dr. Bernard (Ben) Whiteman was appointed interim Prime Minister on September 30 of this year after the former Prime Minister, Ivar Asjes was dismissed by his own party, the ruling party Pueblo Soberano (PS).
According to the interim leader of the parliamentary faction representing the party, Jaime Cordoba, his party had asked Whiteman to stay as Prime Minister for three months until they can find a suitable replacement for Asjes. They had two candidates in mind, but since the communication between the Ministers and the parliament had improved, they asked Whiteman to remain as Prime Minister and finish the term.
Currently Whiteman is also the Minister of Public Health, Environment and Nature. Next week the party will discuss if he will continue in that role or if they will look for a replacement. The party did not indicate what their plans are.
When Asjes was dismissed, the question remained why. Cordoba said that he will not go into that question. “The party has already indicated in the media that they will not answer that question. That is an internal affair! If Asjes wants, he can answer that question,” said Cordoba.
