32 million for economic foundations

PalmWILLEMSTAD - The Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) has budgeted an amount of 32.2 million guilders in 2014 for six foundations, which falls under the Ministry. An agreement is reached on an amount of 31.8 million, Minister Stanley Palm said in a letter with answers to questions posed by MFK MP Amerigo Thodé.

There are a total of 26 foundations under MEO, according to the answers given by Palm. But only six foundations are eligible for subsidy. These are Fundashon Wega di Number Kòrsou (Lottery) (FWNK), Curaçao Tourism Development Foundation (CTDF) Fundashon Marshe, Sedeck, Innovation Center Curaçao (ICC) and Stimul-IT.

The foundation that received the highest subsidy in 2014 was CTDF, which includes the tourist office CTB. This foundation received an amount of 30.7 million guilders subsidy from the government. Secondly Stimul-IT, follows with 474.932 guilders. But by July ICC merged into Stimul-IT. A portion of the grant for this year for ICC, originally budgeted at 375,000 guilders will be transferred to Stimul-IT. It is a sum of 186,068 guilders attributable to Stimul-IT, allowing the foundation for this year, a total subsidy of 661,000 guilders.

According to the answers of Minister Palm, in MEO’s budget there are also subsidies for foundations FWNK (332,500 guilders), Fundashon Marshe, which no amount has been budgeted and Sedeck Foundation (300,000 guilders). But on the last foundation, the government decided to put a subsidy stop in 2013.
