80/20 bill back to Advisory Council
WILLEMSTAD – The Minister of Social Development, Labor and Welfare, Ruthmilda Larmonie Cecilia expects the so-called 80/20 law to go to the Governor for signature before the elections of this year.
It was not known that the bill proposal was sent again to the Advisory Council. The controversial bill were 80% of employees must be local and 20% can be foreigners, was dismissed by the council in 2012.
According to the Council, the bill proposal infringes with the principle of equality. Another attempt was made at the beginning of this year. A detailed proposal was presented to the Governor for signature.
Governor Lucille George-Wout asked for further clarification on some point, but then it was silent. The 80/20 bill proposal is now back at the Advisory Council. This bill is a showpiece for the ruling party Pueblo Soberano.
