Additional social welfare payments due to rising cost of living
WILLEMSTAD – Social welfare beneficiaries will receive an additional one time payment to compensate for the increase in the cost of living in 2014. This was announced by the Ministry of Finance and the Minister of Social Development, Labor and Welfare.
Social welfare recipients will be compensated once. The government hopes to ease the social situation of these specific groups somewhat.
Through a press release the ministries indicate the following:
“As part of the austerity measures to make the General Retirement Services Fund (AOV) and the General Widows and Orphans Fund Services (AWW) financially healthy again, the indexation of social benefits is subject to nominal economic growth.
On that basis no adjustment of the AOV / AWW benefits took place in 2015 over the year 2014.”
To compensate for this a lump sum payment will be made. In 2016, there will be a reassessment of 2015.
