Asjes wants salary standard for civil service apparatus

WILLEMSTAD – PS-parliamentarian Ivar Asjes advocates the introduction of a salary standard for public servants of the country Curaçao. Asjes is of the opinion that directors and other officials in the (semi) public sector are paid very high salaries. He therefore argues to put a check on these customs. Asjes’ proposal departs from publishing the salaries of everyone working in the (semi) government apparatus and of those earning more than the premier. It should further be prohibited that these salaries exceed 130 percent of what a minister of the country Curaçao earns. Asjes believes the government is to make a new law for this.

Subsequently, the parliamentarian asked Premier Daniel Hodge (PS) several questions on this subject. For instance he wants to know if Hodge is prepared to study his proposal and to ask for the necessary advice. Asjes further wants to know if Hodge shares his opinion that the introduction of a salary standard for employees of government services, government nv’s and institutions will lead to a structural reduction of the expenditure of government entities. On the other hand, Asjes also asks whether Hodge is prepared to have jurists from the civil servant apparatus to work out his proposal in a law. This law is to include a regulation for a transitional period, according to the PS-member.
