Balborda clings to new carnival route

BalbordaWILLEMSTAD – The Minister of Traffic, Transportation, Earl Balborda, did not deviate from his decision to change the route of the 2015 carnival parade. The Minister explained yesterday during a press conference that it doesn’t matter all the criticism against this decision, he believes it is necessary and he will not withdraw his decision.

Too many buildings along the route are in a poor condition, so the public is at risk during major events such as Carnival. According to the minister, with the current legislation, the government has problems requiring owners to do something about this situation. The government cannot obligate them to fix their buildings. These are usually historic monuments in the downtown area.

Last year, eight people were injured by a collapsing wall. One of those victims was permanently paralyzed.
