BDO audits UTS

BalbordaWILLEMSTAD - Consulting firm BDO is going to do an audit of the telecommunications company UTS. This is according to Minister Earl Balborda (PNP). The audit should be completed in six to eight weeks, the minister said. In the meantime, the process of dismissing employees will be stopped.

After the audit, it will be decided how to continue with the process to make UTS a financial healthy company. Balborda believes that public limited companies must be able to pay dividends, so that the government can do other things in the interest of society.

If the government companies don’t make profits then they should be divested. In this context Balborda says UTS should also be privatized. According to unconfirmed reports, the company has suffered tens of millions losses in 2013.

This would mainly be due to the results of Uniqa, UTS’ subsidiary in Suriname. Balborda said to have two candidates who are interested in Uniqa. The offers vary a lot from one another, said the Minister. One offer is for a general takeover offer and the other is a joint venture.
