Bijleveld: no military threat Venezuela

Ank-BijleveldWILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Defense of the Kingdom Ank Bijleveld is worried about the situation in Venezuela, but there is no question of a military threat. She said that yesterday during her visit to Curaçao.

However, the soldiers are prepared in case of receiving refugees, if Curaçao requests this. For this type of assistance, permission must no longer be requested in The Hague.

The Minister had a busy program yesterday on the island. There was a ceremonial arrival at Parera Naval Base, and she paid a working visit to the Curaçao Militia (CurMil) at Suffisant.

In between, the Minister took a picture with the women present in the context of International Women's Day and made an introductory visit to Governor Lucille George-Wout at Fort Amsterdam in Willemstad. She was accompanied by the Commander of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant-Admiral Rob Bauer and the Deputy Commander of the Navy in the Caribbean, Captain Jan Willem Boone.

The Minister departed for Aruba today and will return to the Netherlands after her visit to that island.
