Braam declares himself Independent Member of Parliament
WILLEMSTAD – The now former President of the political party PAR, Edward Braam declared himself an Independent Member of Parliament. He will no longer be part of the party. This puts the coalition back to 10 seats, which means that they will have to find another party to form a majority in parliament.
According to Braam, he does not have confidence in the political leader of the party, Zita Jesus-Leito anymore. He stated that the negotiations were all based on personal interests and this is unacceptable. As president of the party, he was not even aware of what was going on during the negotiations.
“First we said that we will not work with Omayra Leeflang. And now I hear we will work with her in a coalition.”
Braam said that the negotiators did not even consult with the party members, but through a message on WhatsApp they hear that Zita Jesus-Leito, the party leader, will be appointed as the new Minister of Public Health. “PAR has people that are more capable of doing this job than Zita.”
I will join PAR again when Zita is no longer the political leader.
