Bus drivers will not fret about new tariffs
WILLEMSTAD - Drivers of public transportation are threatening with actions. They are strongly against the rate cut by the government.
The new tariffs are calculated on the basis of lower fuel prices. This week the government announced a tariff reduction for public transportation, but the drivers have told their clients to continue to pay the higher rate.
The Minister of Economic Develpment, who is also responsible for the calculation of the tariffs, Eugene Rhuggenaath said that he will ask his Ministry to double check their last calculations in the coming week.
The drivers indicated that if the Minister doesn’t do anything, they will not give service and will block the road to the two main bus stops in downtown, one in Punda and the other in Otrabanda.
