Camelia-Römer: “Still no insight figures new hospital”

Suzy-Romer-CameliaWILLEMSTAD - The half-yearly figures of Hospital Nobo Otrobanda (New Hospital Otrabanda HNO) have been handed over to the Ministries of Health, Environment and Nature, Finance and General Affairs by SONA recently. Reliable sources said that the project is up to now within the budgeted figures.

There is a cost overrun of the budget of 17%, which is due to government decisions, including additional costs related to the relocation of the building site from the Amstel grounds to Otrobanda and the failure to comply with the promise that the building materials can be imported tax-free. An overrun of 15% is usually common with large construction projects like the HNO.

Minister Suzy Camelia-Römer cannot give an insight on the figures because she has asked the Government Accountants Bureau (SOAB) to meet with SONA and the Ministerial Project Supervisor Stanley Betrian to review the figures. There will be a report about it and only then will it be released.

Furthermore, Camelia-Römer still says that she is still behind her decision to take SONA out of the project and claims that SONA has offered this. That's right, but the Minister forgot to mention that SONA’s offers to step out only if this is government's wish. However, SONA also has a number of conditions, including conducting an operational audit. Whether the minister agrees with this is unclear.
