CFT questions groundbreaking new hospital

New hospitalWILLEMSTAD - The Financial Supervision Committee (CFT) has questioned the so-called groundbreaking for the new hospital. On December 19, the ceremonial start signal was given for the construction of the new hospital in Otrobanda. The Parliament had approved the 2014 budget, but not the 2013 spendings, says the Committee in a recommendation to Finance Minister Jose Jardim.

“Also in 2013, there were expenditures made to prevent that the process would slow down, such as a down payment to the contractor, payment to the delegated client (SONA) for delivered services and advanced payments and purchase of the required land. “Cft finds it odd that this expenditure was made and the ceremonial start of construction was given, while there was no budget set. This means that the Cft has not given its council yet.

“The financing of all this will come largely from a loan through current registration for government bonds. The committee has to asses this proposed loan,” the Cft indicated.
