Cijntje will not resign as Member of Parliament
WILLEMSTAD – According to the Member of Parliament for the ruling party Pueblo Soberano (PS) Melvin Cijntje he was carefully considering whether to resign as MP or to stay to finish the term. “I’m staying,” said Cijntje during the weekly party meeting last Saturday.
His son was arrested last week because he is suspected of drug trafficking and money laundering. Cijntje said as a father he feels responsible for the actions of his son and therefore was considering leaving politics.
“I don’t agree with the actions of my son, but as a father I will continue to support him,” said Cijntje. He also wants to make sure his son gets a good lawyer.
