Clarification on Petroleum Regulation

Offices of ParliamentWILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister Ivar Asjes and Minister of Economic Development, Stanely Palm were summoned by members of Parliament to explain why the draft Petroleum Regulation has not yet been offered to Parliament.

The regulation must make way for the exploration of gas and oil in the territorial waters of the island of Curacao. The MFK-faction requested this issue to become an agenda point in Parliament on April 17 of this year. The possible presence of natural gas and oil in and around the territorial waters of Curacao has been a long debated issue in Parliament and in the Government of Curacao. In 2005 the Island Territory of Curacao drafter a Petroleum Ordinance for the Windward Island and the Government composed of MFK, MAN and PS redrafted this Ordinance last year into the new Petroleum Ordinance Territorial Waters Curacao.
