Curaçao and Medellin sign Memorandum of Understanding

Willemstad_MedellinWILLEMSTAD, MEDELLIN - In the framework of Anato, the mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez and the minister of economic development of Curaçao, Steven Martina, announced this memorandum that will strengthen the cultural, cognitive and economic exchange between Willemstad, as the capital of Curaçao and Medellín.

The signed agreement includes six main points that were explained by the mayor of Medellín:

1. Promote the exchange of medical specialists, knowledge and information, students, researchers, experiences in certain scenarios or events that propitiate the parties within the limits of competencies and respecting the prerogatives of their respective states.

2. Promote cultural and educational exchanges focused on the hotel and tourism sector.

3. Contribute to strengthening the value chains of the agro-industrial sector that allows the increase of business between both territories.

4. Support the promotion, knowledge and demand of products.

5. Encourage air connectivity between both destinations for tourism and economic purposes.

6. Associate their joint efforts with institutional, economic and institutional networks to the interested networks.

7. Other actions of mutual interest, which according to the consolidation of relations could cover other sectors.

It is worth mentioning that both cities finalized a cooperation agreement in 2014 and retake the negotiation due to the good relationship and growth in the number of visitors.

Currently, 10% of the population of Curaçao is Colombian, which further strengthens the relationship between both countries and allows for finding opportunities that maximize the best of both markets.

The agreement will become effective as of February 22, 2018 and will have a validity of 2 years that may be extended if both parties agree.
