Curaçao can export products duty-free to the US
WILLEMSTAD - Minister Plenipotentiary of Curaçao in Washington, Xavier Prens, is proud that Curaçao has managed to export products duty-free to the United States.
"Since August, we have qualified. There's a lot of paperwork involved, it is not easy, but the opportunity is there now. Successes need to be celebrated,” said Prens said in What a week!, indicating that Curaçao has been working for years on this.
Prens has been in Washington for two years now and has two more years to go. He is currently working on getting U.S. customs officials stationed at the Curaçao Hato Airport, which is already the case in Aruba.
“When you go through customes here, you don’t need to do that in the States. This does not only have practical advantages, but also strategic ones. You become an interesting partner for U.S. businesses that way.”
