Curaçao government supports Isla in case of 75 million
WILLEMSTAD – The Government supports the oil refinery Isla and various stakeholders in the lawsuit that the refinery has filed to lift the garnishment of 75 million guilders claimed by environmental groups and citizens living under the Isla smoke.
This is according to the government in a written statement.
Raul Henriquez, secretary of the Council of Ministers explained that the decision was taken because the government has the task to guarantee the supply of water and electricity.
The statement also talks about the responsibility the government has to guarantee stability, security, peace and the socioeconomic situation in general.
The decision was taken after the cabinet met with the Multidisciplinary Project (MDPT), which is responsible for the modernization of the Isla refinery, Curoil, Refineria Isla, Aqualectra and representatives of various trade unions of workers in the refinery (Apri and PWFC) and the Directorate of Disaster and Risk Control Policy.
