Dannawi signs with new majority
WILLEMSTAD – Independent Member of Parliament Gassan Dannawi, who was an MP for MAN, joined the new majority headed by the MFK leader Gerrit Schotte.
Last Friday Dannawi submitted his resignation after ten years as a MAN member and continued as an Independent MP. This surely came as a surprise since Dannawi announced earlier that if he resigns from the party he would not take his parliamentary seat with him.
Another blow came for the now opposition party MAN, when yesterday Dannawi placed his signature under an agreement with the new majority to form a government for the period 2017-2020. This agreement also was the cause for confusion because the Governor recently signed a decree calling for elections on April 28.
The new majority consists now of MFK, Korsou di Nos Tur, Movementu Progresivo, Pueblo Soberano and two Independent MPs, Edward Braam and Gassan Dannawi. The parliamentary support for the new government is not 12.
The reason for Dannawi’s resignation from the MAN is still unknown.
