Defense Minister: Coastguard conflict remain unresolved

Defense MinisterWILLEMSTAD – The visiting Minister of Defense, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, has not solved the problems with the Coast Guard, this is according to the Minister during a press conference at Naval Base Suffisant.

The local coastguard employees feel discriminated against by their Dutch colleagues and intimidated by the leadership. Hennis-Plasschaert spoke with the parties involved, but could not reach a compromise in the conflict. The Coast Guard announced that they will talk with union NAPB about a new timetable for the staff of the cutter. In addition, consultations were held with other unions and the former Justice Minister Elmer Wilsoe. The Coast Guard emphasizes that authorities in Curaçao cannot solve the problems alone, because the Coast Guard is controlled by several countries.
