Delay in execution report division of properties and debts Netherlands Antilles
WILLEMSTAD – For unknown reasons, there is still a delay in the execution of the report on division of the properties and debts of the Netherlands Antilles, which was presented by the committee headed by Mr. Faroe Metry at the end of last year. It is even said that Sint Maarten and the Netherlands are accusing Curaçao of delaying the process of dividing the properties and debts of the former Netherlands Antilles.
This means that there is more pressure from certain funds to receive their share of the money.
What stands out negatively in this delay is that there are practically no points of dispute in the report presented by the committee. In the beginning there were some points of dispute, but these were taken care of, according to the committee. On the property balance there were some creditors like the Social Insurance Bank (SVB), Health Fund, and various others which are waiting to receive millions from the former Netherlands Antilles.
The Minister of Finance, Dr. Jose Jardim recently indicated that they are working on the execution of the report. The Minister even indicated that this division will be very beneficial for Curaçao. Curaçao will receive about 79% of the properties.
But for unknown reasons, the Government of Curaçao has failed to use the offers given by the committee to accelerate the process.
