Democracy at work – busy week in Parliament of Curaçao

ParliamentWILLEMSTAD - The new parliamentary year 2014-2015 will officially start on Tuesday, September 9. In a solemn assembly the President of Parliament, Marcolino 'Mike' Franco will open the parliamentary year after the speech of the Governor George Lucille-Wout, who will announce the plans of the government for the next year.

Before the opening of the new parliamentary year, the old year will end with a meeting where all the leaders of the various factions will speak. This will take place on Monday September 8.

After the formal meeting on Tuesday, the regular meetings will continue on Thursday with a public meeting, which was requested by the opposition party MFK. In this meeting, the opposition faction wants to debate with the Minister of Finance, Dr. José Jardim about the announcement that AQ Bottling, Aqualectra’s subsidiary company, which produces the drinking water Claro, will be sold. During this meeting the MFK also wants to discuss the policy at the utility company Aqualectra.

This week will end with a public meeting with the Minister of Education, Irene Dick on the increase in tuition at the University of Curaçao and educational measures announced by the government. This meeting was also requested by the MFK faction. All meetings of Parliament this week will begin at nine o'clock in the morning.
