Dock employees upset about second half of payment
WILLEMSTAD – Last Tuesday the employees of the Curaçao Dry Dock Company (CDM) were pretty upset and disgusted because they still have not received the payment that was promised to them a few weeks ago.
The employees are waiting for the second half of the compensation they are entitled to.
Recently a financial organization on the island was consulted and they agreed to pay the 50%, but this has not been done yet. This was the reason why the employees, both those in permanent service as well as those on temporary service, went on strike to express their dissatisfaction with the government and the CDM management. They demanded to know from the CEO, Getmar Caldera what is going on.
They also said that they want to talk to Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath of Economic Development and who is also responsible for the CDM so he can intervene in this situation.
A spokesperson of the employees said that they will not stop until this issue has been resolved and they all receive their money or at least black on white when this is going to happen.
