Dutch Lower House schedules debate Curaçao oil refinery to earlier date

Oil refineryTHE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD - The meeting of the Parliamentary Committee for Kingdom Relations of the Dutch Lower House with Minister Ronald Plasterk about the problems of the Isla refinery has been scheduled more than a month earlier than was planned.

The debate was initially scheduled for December 10, but will now be held as early as next week Thursday. D66 MP Wassila Hachchi had insisted on holding the debate as soon as possible.

This is following the decision of Minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert of Defense to assist (including financially) defense personnel in neighborhoods affected by the refinery to move to other locations on the island where the public health is not threatened by emissions from the refinery.
