Dutch political parties SP and VVD want to talk with local MPs about independent public broadcasting

Dutch ParliamentWILLEMSTAD - The Dutch political parties SP and VVD want to talk to Curaçao MPs in January next year about the possibility for an independent public broadcaster on Curaçao.

The parties are concerned that many media on the island are being influenced by politics. The reason for this is a broadcast of the debate program Issues on NPO Radio 1 last Sunday in which the Curaçao journalist Yves Cooper and Dutch MP Ronald van Raak talked about corruption in Curaçao and the role of the media.

Both agree that many of the media companies on the island are influenced by politics. According to him, almost all radio broadcasters on the island have known political color. Cooper argues for an independent public broadcaster in Curaçao. SP and VVD want to step up the fight against corruption and the political influence on the island. They too want a public broadcaster on Curaçao.
