Dutch Senate will vote on Refinery

Oil RefineryTHE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD –  On Tuesday, the Dutch Senate will vote on a motion of the SP on the health damage caused by the Isla oil refinery in Curacao. The motion, signed by the senators of the SP, Christian Union, PvdA and D66 urges the Dutch government to discuss the issue with the government of Curaçao.

Arjan Linthorst, secretary of the Clean Environment Curacao (SMOC) foundation, hopes that the motion is passed as it is. According to Linthorst it is time that measures are taken. Curaçao cannot deal with this major problem. It will be possible to address the pollution of the Isla and modernize the refinery in cooperation with the Netherlands.
