Ebola task force also for Chikungunya

taskforceebolaWILLEMSTAD - The task force preparing a plan for Ebola is also paying attention to the Chikungunya virus. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Curaçao, Ivar Asjes during the press conference of the Council of Ministers.

The Task Force is a joint task of Asjes and the Minister of Public Health, Environment and Nature, Ben Whiteman. “We had a meeting today with members of the task force. We have also decided to focus our attention on Chikungunya, because it is a serious problem now.”

The government is concerned about the rapid spread of the disease and is finalizing an action plan. The task force consists of both ministers, epidemiologist Izzy Gerstenbluth, representatives of the St. Elisabeth Hospital (SEHOS), Selikor, Hato Airport, Customs and funeral directors.

Asjes emphasized on the responsibility of the population: “We are going to clean up areas where trash has been dumped. But the people themselves are responsible for not dumping more trash.”
