Elections under an independent Supreme Electoral Council
WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Administration, Planning and Services Etienne van der Horst believes that an independent Supreme Electoral Council (SEC) could be a reality before the election of September 30 this year.
The Council of Ministers passed this week a proposal from the SEC with the date of the next elections for the Parliament of Curaçao. The date in which the parties must submit their list with candidates is August 8. The new parliament will officially take seat on November 2 of this year.
The Council has currently no formal president. President Geomaly Martes resigned two years ago, but was asked by Minister Van der Horst to stay until a new president has been appointed. As per February 15 the current vice president of the Council, Raymond Römer will be appointed as the new president.
Römer has been involved in the organization of elections on the island. He has experience and according to the Minister will be the right man for the position.
