EU sanctions against more Venezuelans

Maduro-Venezuela-verkiezingen-AFPTHE HAGUE - In January, the European Union (EU) imposed measures against seven political and military officials from Venezuela. The EU Foreign Ministers decided to add eleven more individuals on Monday to consultations in Luxembourg in order to increase the pressure on the regime.

In November last year, the EU forbade the delivery of weapons to Venezuela and other goods that could be used to suppress the population.

The Kingdom Minister of Foreign Affairs Stef Blok also said after the Venezuelan elections that they were not free and independent. Many of Maduro's opponents are in prison or have fled. Not only do many people flee the misery by going to Colombia but also Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao are a destination, much to the concern of the Dutch Parliament.

“Unfortunately, there is still no positive change in Venezuela,” Blok reacted in Luxembourg. This has prompted the EU to extend the sanction list to those involved in human rights violations and undermining democracy in Venezuela.
