First technical consultation between the Kingdom and Venezuela on intensifying customs cooperation

ConsultationWILLEMSTAD - The customs cooperation between Venezuela, Curaçao, Aruba and the Caribbean Netherlands (Bonaire) will be intensified. This should primarily lead to the prevention of possible smuggling practices and to improve the monitoring of the flow of goods between the countries. During a technical meeting at an official level, which took place on Thursday, May 3, the discussion was about mutual information exchange and the identification of contact persons.

With this consultation, opened by Minister of Finance Kenneth Gijsbertha, implementation of the agreement between the countries, which was discussed on Aruba on 12 January 2018 and signed in Venezuela on 7 April 2018, was started. Several consultations in which further cooperation agreements will be made in the area of customs, but also on possible other cooperation areas. A subsequent consultation will take place in June in Venezuela.

In addition to representatives from the customs authorities of Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao, a number of other services also participated in today's consultations. Venezuela is an important neighbor of the Kingdom. Good cooperation in the field of customs matters for both Venezuela and Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao.
