Flight connection to Italy a possibility
WILLEMSTAD - Fly to Italy from Curaçao could soon belong to the possibilities. “We are investigating on the short term what the options are for such an air route between Curaçao and Italy,” said the Minister of Economic Development Eugene Rhuggenaath.
Rhuggenaath was recently on a working visit to Italy and spoke with various authorities including the Vice President of Alitalia.
According to the largest airline in the southern European country, Curaçao is attractive to Italian tourists because they are worried about the safety of the destinations around the Mediterranean.
The Minister was informed about the European concept of vacation and he spoke about the possible introduction of this concept here in Curaçao. This concept could diversify the product the island has to offer and make it more attractive for new markets.
Besides Alitalia, Rhuggenaath spoke in the Netherlands, with the executives of the Dutch aviation company KLM. They expressed their appreciation for the newly installed E-gates at the Hato airport. The Minister also talked with KLM about the positive developments in the tourism sector on the island. KLM is wants to motivate Curaçao to continue working on innovation and the betterment of visitor’s experience on the island.
