Former alderman Stolte summoned to Ministry

StolteWILLEMSTAD – The former alderman from The Hague, Wilbert Stolte was summoned by Minister Ronald Plasterk to the Ministry of Interior and Kingdom Relations. Stolte must give an explanation about the maladministration of the subsidy accounts of the Netherlands Antilles of which cannot be determined how 270 million was spent. Moreover, there was fraud committed with a portion of the grants, according to the Dutch newspaper AD on Tuesday.

The grant money went to Sona Foundation (Foundation Development Netherlands Antilles), of which Wilbert Stolte was treasurer between 2008 and 2011. Stolte was until 2006 alderman for the CDA party in The Hague and is now State Representative, the Chief Executive of the Caribbean islands of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba.

Minister Plasterk has appointed a mediator to ensure a "normalization of relations" between the Executive Council of the islands, the lieutenant governor, Island Council and Stolte. Relationships may have been disturbed due to the poor control of grant expenditures.
