Former Secret Service agent Lawrence suspended from Customs
WILLEMSTAD - The government has launched an investigation into the allegations against a former agent for the Curaçao Secret Service (VDC), formerly the Security Service Netherlands Antilles (VNA) Lawrence Pietersz. As we have reported before, Lawrence was appointed as a Customs officer by former Prime Minister of Curaçao, Gerrit Schotte and the former Minister of Finance, George Jamaloodin.
Last week, the customs officer was discredited after documents were leaked by the security service. Pietersz was previously employed at the same department and was suspended before the constitutional change, better known as October 10, 2010 (10-10-10). He was then transferred to Customs.
According to the documents, he was a mole for Gerrit Schotte in the VDC. He was the one who gave classified information concerning the screening of various candidate ministers including Schotte and Jamaloodin. Lawrence was even present during a meeting with Sint Maarten’s strong man Theo Heyliger and mafia boss Francesco Corallo.
According to a number of customs officers, there is more corruption in the Customs and there must be a major clean up in the department
The management was not available for comment.
