Free water and electricity for the underprivileged

Humphrey DavelaarWILLEMSTAD - PNP-member and Member of Parliament, Humphrey Davelaar advocates for free water and electricity for the less fortunate on the island. This is especially for the months of December, January and February. Davelaar submitted this request in a letter to the Minister of Finance Dr. José Jardim as the one who is responsible for the utility company Aqualectra.

According to Davelaar, the people are struggling because of the economic crisis. “It is hard for them to get a job and to generate income. As the government, we have to help them in any way we can.”

The PNP leader also mentioned the possibility of subsidizing the cost of public transportation. “Maybe the government can pay 40% or 50% of the fare for public transportation. This will definitely give those in need a break.”

Whether the Minister of Finance is able and willing to fulfill this request is not yet known.
