Full prison with 250 empty cells

prisonWILLEMSTAD - The prison of Curacao, Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon Korsou (SDKK) is full. Nevertheless, there are 250 cells not in use. The reason is the state of the drains and other maintenance.

One of the consequences of the cells’ poor state is that drug traffickers can no longer be locked behind bars, if they are first time offenders. The Justice Department in the Netherlands is working to revamp the cells, but according to the warden, Urny Floran, that will not solve all the problems.

The prison has not been built taking the situation in Curaçao into consideration. Rival gangs cannot be isolated or locked separately.
